Les Cocottes en Folie

Muret-le-Château · French · Vegetarian · Lunch

2882 Route de la Vallée des Douzes, 12330 Muret-le-Château

+33565477157

Les Cocottes en Folie is the restaurant of the Auberge du Château in Muret-le-Château. Its central idea is simple: a generous casserole placed on the table for people to share, recalling meals cooked at home and recipes passed down through families. Slow cooked dishes, fresh ingredients and local produce give the kitchen its direction. Laura and Yannick run the auberge as a family business. They describe discovering the village during a holiday and later leaving their commercial work in Montpellier to build a different life here. Yannick looks after the life of the house and its events, while Laura works both in the kitchen and in the dining room. That connection between cooking and welcoming guests is reflected in the restaurant's informal approach. The kitchen prepares its food on the premises, drawing on seasonal ingredients and nearby producers. Menus evolve with the produce available and the chef's inspiration. The restaurant welcomes people who are not staying at the inn, and its dining arrangements include quieter spaces as well as an emphasis on eating together. A terrace provides an outdoor setting, while the wider auberge includes a cafe and bar area. Birthdays, family meals and gatherings of friends can be arranged directly with the owners. The house also offers tailored menus for events. Vegetarian and gluten free meals can be prepared when dietary needs are explained during the reservation. Booking ahead is central to the way the restaurant works, making this a considered stop for a shared country meal rather than an extensive fixed menu.

Auberge du Moulin de Sarré

Gennes-Val-de-Loire · Fish and seafood · Lunch · Dinner

41 Sarré, 49350 Gennes-Val-de-Loire

+33241518132

Auberge du Moulin de Sarré brings the local fouée tradition into the setting of a working mill at Sarré, near Gennes. These small pockets of bread are made with stoneground flour from wheat milled at Sarré, connecting the restaurant's central speciality directly to the work of the mill. The house explains the bread's origins through the old practice of using leftover dough while a bread oven warmed up, then eating the small breads immediately with fillings. Here, the fouée menu supplies a succession of accompaniments rather than a single plated main course. Fresh butter, poultry rillettes from Ferme de la Touche, homemade spiced courgette terrine and white beans accompany the bread. Another filling, called the miller's stuffing, combines tomato, fresh mushrooms, ham and onion with fennel. Salad, cheese and a seasonal dessert complete the meal, with Anjou red wine served alongside it. A separate trout option adds fish cooked in the wood oven and Anjou white wine before the fouée selection; this preparation must be arranged ahead because of its cooking time. The auberge has three dining rooms and also welcomes private groups, offering exclusive use of the rooms, traditional menus and arrangements involving entertainment or dancing. Local performers and themed events form another part of the restaurant's life. Its emphasis stays on bread, regional accompaniments and shared tables, with the mill's flour giving the meal a particularly clear connection to its surroundings.

Les Fouées de Grézillé

Gennes-Val-de-Loire · Lunch · Dinner · Seating indoors

Lieu-dit La Bachellerie, 49320 Gennes-Val-de-Loire

+33241455357

Les Fouées de Grézillé offers a meal built around Anjou's small wood baked breads in a renovated underground restaurant at La Bachellerie. The troglodyte setting is part of the experience, pairing a comfortable cave dining space with a style of cooking centred on the wood oven. Fouées arrive as the main thread of the meal, with a range of fillings and accompaniments made using fresh seasonal ingredients and produce from local suppliers. The published menu includes pure pork rillettes, salted butter and rillauds, together with simmered white beans from Vendée and cooked fresh mushrooms. These provide several ways to fill the breads and give the meal a succession of different flavours. A green salad accompanies a cheese gratin prepared in the wood oven with Tomme d'Anjou and Guignolet, keeping the regional theme running through the meal. For dessert, the house lists homemade crémet d'Anjou with red fruit coulis, as well as ice cream or sorbet. The set formula also includes an aperitif, Anjou red or Loire rosé wine, and coffee or a fruit infusion. The restaurant works by reservation and can arrange meals for groups of at least twenty-five people. Online requests ask for the intended arrival time and the number of adults and children, with a return confirmation completing the booking. Its combination of underground surroundings, local wines and bread from the wood oven gives a focused introduction to a distinctive Anjou food tradition.

+33241457531

Mon–Sun 12:00–14:30, 19:00–21:00

La Route du Sel occupies a traditional tuffeau house beside the Loire in Le Thoureil, between Angers and Saumur. Built in 1851, the riverside building belongs to the landscape of the old village, and the restaurant's name recalls the transport of salt along the river from Nantes towards central France. The business is presented as a family restaurant with roots in the region across five generations. Its terrace and garden look over the Loire, while an indoor dining room provides a more sheltered setting. The kitchen's focus is fresh produce from local suppliers, with vegetables changing through the seasons and homemade pasta accompanying some dishes. River fish have a particular place here: eel, pike and pike perch appear among the specialities. The cooking also extends to nearby poultry and meat producers, with natural and regional wines alongside the food. Marie Monmousseau leads the kitchen, while pastry chef Laurent Mercier contributes desserts throughout the year. The pastry selection gives the meal its own final chapter, from a local crémet to fruit tarts and chocolate preparations. Together, the cooking and setting make this a place to explore the Loire through both the plate and the view. A table can be requested directly by telephone. The choice between dining inside and sitting beside the river gives the restaurant two distinct settings within the same house.

De Loire & d'Ailleurs

Gennes-Val-de-Loire · Fish and seafood · Vegetarian · Lunch

2 quai de la Loire, 49350 Gennes-Val-de-Loire

+33241512886

De Loire & d'Ailleurs is the restaurant of chef Bryan Laubin and dining room manager Amandine Dumas at Les Rosiers-sur-Loire. Their approach brings southern French influences into an Anjou setting, drawing particularly on Provence and the Landes while keeping local ingredients in view. The kitchen presents seasonal menus, with additional suggestions written on the board alongside the main selection. The published summer menu illustrates how those influences meet: an Anjou salad combines rillauds, mushrooms and Tomme de Loire, while snails come from Cornillé-les-Caves. A tomato starter uses smoked mozzarella and focaccia with Espelette pepper, basil and tarragon. Fish and seafood preparations include mackerel with tomato gazpacho and garlic croutons, and small squid with parsley and garlic beside squid ink pasta. A breaded aubergine dish, explicitly offered as vegetarian, is accompanied by grilled courgettes, ratatouille, pepper sauce and smoked mozzarella. Meat options on that menu include veal tartare with hazelnut oil and polenta fries, plus a cut of beef selected according to supply. Desserts continue the mix of regional and more individual ideas, with an Anjou pavlova, melon parfait, vanilla cream choux and a sweet potato and white chocolate fondant. There are also cheeses and ice cream preparations. These dishes show the range of the kitchen rather than a fixed promise of what will be available on every visit. Reservations are taken directly by telephone, with the couple's team handling both kitchen and dining room.

Les Pieds Bleus

Gennes-Val-de-Loire · Lunch · Dinner · Seating indoors

20 bis rue Foulques Nerra, 49350 Gennes-Val-de-Loire

+33241679564

Les Pieds Bleus is the restaurant within La Cave aux Moines at Préban, where adjoining underground galleries have been adapted into dining rooms. The setting makes the region's relationship with stone and food unusually tangible: these former tuffeau extraction galleries also house a working mushroom farm. The restaurant cooks with mushrooms produced in that same cave complex, bringing cultivation and kitchen into close contact. Paris mushrooms, oyster mushrooms and shiitakes are the three varieties grown on site. Fouées are the other central speciality. Made on the premises and cooked in traditional wood ovens, these small breads puff into hollow pockets that can be opened while warm and filled to taste. The house describes the customary accompaniments as butter, rillettes, white beans, cheese and mushrooms. Stuffed galipettes, another local mushroom preparation, also feature among the regional dishes. Loire wines accompany the menus, and a children's menu follows the same regional theme. The interconnected rooms make the restaurant suitable for family gatherings as well as larger occasions such as birthdays and business dinners. Guests can also explore the cave through a separate guided or independent visit, learning how tuffeau was extracted and how mushroom cultivation developed underground. A wine cellar offers tastings and bottles from the Loire, including Saumur and Anjou appellations. The combination of bread ovens, cave-grown mushrooms and old quarry spaces gives this restaurant a close connection to the practical traditions of Anjou.

La Corderie sits on the Cité d'Alet peninsula in Saint-Servan, on the far side of the harbour from the walled town, with a terrace that looks across the estuary of the Rance to Dinard. The same family has run it for more than thirty-five years, and the kitchen has stayed with what the boats bring in: sole and bass from the bay, scallops in season, lobster from the tank, a fish soup that regulars order without opening the menu. It is a quiet, unhurried place, better for a long lunch with the view than for a quick bite. Booking is wise for the terrace on a sunny day.

The Crêperie Solid'Or is named after the Solidor tower that stands a few steps away at the mouth of the Rance, and it does the one thing a Breton crêperie should do well. The galettes are made from organic buckwheat flour, the classic complète with ham, egg and cheese alongside fillings with andouille, scallops or goat's cheese and honey, and the sweet crêpes come with salted-butter caramel made in house. Cider is served in bowls, as it should be. At the weekend the kitchen stays open through the afternoon, which suits a late return from the beach at Bas-Sablons. It fills up quickly in summer; the terrace on the esplanade is the place to wait.

Le Globe-Trotter is a small restaurant in the heart of the Cité d'Alet, between the Solidor tower and the Bas-Sablons beach, and its name is the menu: dishes gathered from journeys, cooked with what the Breton markets offer. A Thai curry can follow a Breton fish tartare, a tagine a plate of grilled prawns, and the card changes often enough that regulars find something new each visit. At midday there are set lunch formulas between about €15 and €22, which makes it one of the better-value sit-down lunches on this side of the harbour. The terrace is sheltered and there is room for families; evenings are calmer than in the walled town.

The Brasserie du Sillon stands right on the seafront promenade, ten minutes on foot from the ramparts, with the beach and the tide in front of the windows. It is a seafood house first: oysters and whelks from the bay, a Royal Sillon platter stacked with crab, langoustines and prawns, grilled fish of the day and moules-frites. The menu changes every six to eight weeks with the season, and there is meat for those who did not come for the sea. Between lunch and dinner the room becomes a tea room, which makes it a good stop after a long walk along the Sillon. The dining room is level and accessible, and the terrace faces the water.

Favorite Coffee is a coffee shop on the Sillon, the long seafront promenade, run by three sisters who wanted a place that serves breakfast all day. That is what it does: eggs, pancakes, granola bowls, avocado toast and fresh juices from morning until the afternoon, with specialty coffee, matcha and homemade cakes alongside. The room is bright and the tables outside face the beach across the road. It is the kind of place for a slow morning after a swim, or a late breakfast on a day when the tide has taken the beach away. Weekends are busy; midweek mornings are the calm ones.

The Auberge du Clos des Vignes is a country inn on the road between Saint-Malo and the Rance, ten minutes by car from the walled town and away from the summer crowds. Tony and Alexis run it as a pair, one in the kitchen and one in the room, and the cooking is French bistro food done with care: a market menu that changes with the week, meat from the region, fish from the coast, proper desserts. It opens for lunch and dinner every day of the week, which is rarer than it sounds around Saint-Malo, where many kitchens close on Mondays. The garden makes it a good choice for an evening when the town is full; parking is easy.

Le Bard'Ô overlooks Portissol beach from the edge of the bay in Sanary-sur-Mer. Its terrace faces the Mediterranean, while an indoor dining room provides another setting for a meal by the water. Andrew and his team combine restaurant dining with a bar and a program of live performances and visiting DJs. The atmosphere can therefore move from a relaxed seaside meal toward a more festive gathering. The menu travels between Mediterranean ingredients and flavors from farther afield. Sea bream carpaccio is paired with green apple, ginger and citrus, while tuna tataki comes with aromatic rice and an Asian salad. There are also clam linguine, mushroom risotto and truffle ravioli. Meat dishes include beef with herb butter, lamb shank with mashed potato and a veal chop with mushroom sauce. For sharing, guests can choose small dishes or boards of cured meats and cheeses. Desserts range from chocolate mousse to an exotic tiramisu involving lemon, coconut and passion fruit, with ice cream sundaes providing another finish. A separate children's menu is available. The terrace is also used for private gatherings, and the restaurant can prepare customized menus for birthdays, weddings, baptisms or business events. With space both inside and outdoors, it accommodates occasions larger than an ordinary table booking. The defining combination is the broad menu, sea-facing position and music program, bringing several kinds of outing together at the same beachside address.

140 chemin de la Plage, 83110 Sanary-sur-Mer

La Gorguette is the beach-level restaurant at Hostellerie La Farandole, on Chemin de la Plage in Sanary-sur-Mer. The hotel stands beside the sandy Gorguette beach, facing the Bay of Bandol. Here, the restaurant's setting brings the meal close to the sea, with the coast forming the backdrop to a kitchen focused on fresh, local and seasonal ingredients. Regional flavors guide the cooking, and the wine selection offers a way to explore both Provençal vineyards and the wider French wine tradition. The dining room has a sophisticated atmosphere within a contemporary seaside hotel. La Gorguette forms part of the property's seasonal restaurant arrangement, taking over in winter from the rooftop Panoramic. Guests choosing this address therefore encounter the beach-level setting rather than the roof terrace associated with the summer restaurant. The hotel also houses a bar serving hot drinks and refreshments, providing another place to gather around a restaurant visit. Contemporary artworks, exhibitions and sculpture contribute to the character of the wider property. Tables can be reserved directly, and the team also arranges catering for professional gatherings, including menus and cocktail receptions. Outdoor and underground parking are available on the premises, together with electric vehicle charging points. The combination of a coastal location and a regional approach to ingredients gives La Gorguette its identity. It offers a restaurant visit within a hotel designed around the beach, the bay and the surrounding Provençal landscape.

Restaurant de la Tour

Sanary-sur-Mer · Fish and seafood · Lunch · Dinner

24 quai Général de Gaulle, 83110 Sanary-sur-Mer

+33494741010

Restaurant de la Tour stands on Sanary's harbor within the Hôtel de la Tour, a house whose story reaches back to the nineteenth century. The Mercier family's connection began in 1936, when Lyon chef Lucien Mercier acquired the hotel. Géraldine later took over as the family's third generation, and two great-grandsons joined the dining room team in 2024. That continuity provides the background to a restaurant centered on fish, shellfish and traditional service. Christian and Bruno prepare specialties including fish baked in a salt crust, bouillabaisse and bourride. Seafood platters offer another way to explore the kitchen's maritime focus. Ingredients come from local fishing and agriculture, supported by relationships with suppliers built over many years. The connection can be very direct: fishermen sometimes arrive in the hotel lobby with a notable catch. At the table, fish is carved in front of guests, preserving a style of service that is part of the restaurant's identity. A renovated dining room and a sunny terrace provide two settings for looking out toward the harbor. Seasonal changes shape the menu, while the daily dish often features fish and is followed by a dessert made by the pastry chef. The restaurant belongs to a hotel associated with visiting writers and artists, adding a sense of local history to the meal. Its appeal lies in that combination of a working port setting, established seafood specialties and a family hospitality tradition.

L.A Restaurant brings Anthony Lazzaro's cooking to Rue Barthélémy de Don, in the streets near Sanary's harbor. Anthony and Nadège welcome guests into a small restaurant with an indoor dining room and an enclosed courtyard terrace. The setting offers a sheltered place to eat while remaining in the town center. The kitchen draws on Provence and Calabria, combining the chef's family background with his training in cooking and pastry. His approach is to preserve the character of an ingredient while exploring unexpected combinations of flavors. A deliberately compact menu gives seasonal produce the central role. Preparations are made on the premises, extending from the small bites that begin a meal to the bread and the sweets that finish it. Guests can also choose a carte blanche experience, letting the chef determine the succession of dishes. That format suits diners who enjoy discovering a meal as it unfolds rather than choosing every course beforehand. The restaurant presents its cooking as a personal expression of a culinary inheritance, with attention given to both savory dishes and pastry. The courtyard and the interior provide different settings for the same intimate style of meal. Reservations can be made directly with the restaurant, including requests for a table for two or a larger party. Small, calm dogs are accepted when kept on a leash and on the floor throughout the meal. Appropriate dress is requested.

5 place Albert Cavet, 83110 Sanary-sur-Mer

+33494322114

L'Endroit occupies Place Albert Cavet in central Sanary-sur-Mer, combining a Mediterranean kitchen with a wood-fired pizzeria. Chef Nicolas Corti leads the cooking, while Arthur Lemoine prepares the pizzas. The two sides of the menu share an emphasis on fresh ingredients, seasonal produce and preparation in the restaurant. Pizza dough is mixed on the premises, slowly fermented and stretched by hand before its brief encounter with the heat of the wood oven. Toppings range from familiar combinations to creations involving burrata and anchovies or grilled vegetables with homemade pesto. Freshly sliced ham and vegetables roasted over wood also feature in the pizzeria's approach. Beyond pizza, the cooking brings together Provence and Italy. Examples include linguine with prawns flambéed in pastis, truffle cream gnocchi, sea bream fillets with market vegetables and French veal prepared Milanese style. Other dishes include sea bass and small plates intended for sharing. The restaurant works with local fishmongers, vegetable growers and cheesemakers, connecting the menu with the surrounding area. A terrace provides an outdoor setting for the meal, alongside the restaurant's convivial atmosphere. This gives a group the option of choosing between pizza and other dishes without changing addresses. Tables can be requested through the restaurant's reservation service, and the team also takes telephone enquiries for particular requirements. The combination of a dedicated pizzaiolo and a separate kitchen gives the address its character: an artisan pizza restaurant with a broader Provençal and Italian repertoire.

Thu–Mon 12:00–13:30, 19:30–21:30; Tue–Wed Closed

Le Relais des Moines stands on Route de Sainte Roseline in Les Arcs-sur-Argens, in the countryside close to Trans-en-Provence. Chef Sébastien Sanjou discovered the house in February 2002 and developed it with his team into a restaurant shaped by two regions: his native southwest France and the Provençal and Mediterranean landscape around him. Sanjou comes from Bigorre and a family involved in food trades for five generations. That background remains part of his cooking, while the surrounding area's growers and other producers provide its present-day foundation. The result is contemporary food organised around seasonal ingredients and the people who supply them. A terrace sits within wooded grounds containing old oaks and pines. From there, the outlook takes in the medieval village of Les Arcs and the Massif des Maures. It is a setting that places the landscape alongside the cooking, with trees and the wider countryside forming part of the experience. The autumn menu includes roasted fish with violet artichokes and black olives, line-caught hake with cauliflower, samphire and cockles, and roast quail with confit legs and butternut squash. Other preparations bring together beef, ceps and chard, or raw scallops with fennel and citrus. Desserts feature local figs, pears, honey and hazelnuts, and there is a selection of farmhouse cheeses. Guests can choose a menu built as a sequence of courses or explore the individual dishes. Tables can be reserved directly, and enquiries about private events are welcomed through a dedicated form.

Bistro Pastis occupies Place de l'Hôtel de Ville in Trans-en-Provence, with an Italian and Mediterranean identity and the flexibility of a village brasserie. Its position on the town hall square makes it a convenient place to pause while exploring the village. The kitchen describes its food as freshly prepared, drawing on regional dishes alongside Italian traditions. There is a choice between an air-conditioned interior and an outdoor terrace. The terrace is heated, extending the appeal of sitting outside beyond the warmest days. For a sweet finish, the selection described by the house includes tiramisu, cakes, tarts and ice cream, as well as pastries and chocolate desserts. This gives the restaurant an appeal beyond a full meal, particularly for visitors looking for something sweet with a drink. The local tourism listing records one dining room with fifty covers and a further fifty terrace covers. That arrangement offers two distinct ways to enjoy the same square: a table inside the brasserie or a seat outdoors in the village setting. A bar is also part of the establishment. Table requests can be made by telephone or through the reservation form. Takeaway is available, and private celebrations can be arranged directly with the team. Free Wi-Fi is provided, and several bank cards and contactless payments are accepted. Together, these practical facilities make Pastis an adaptable stop for couples, families or a gathering of friends.

Place des Moulins, 83720 Trans-en-Provence

+33494708759

Restaurant La Grotte brings a seasonal restaurant into a natural cave on Place des Moulins in Trans-en-Provence. Chantal and Philippe welcome guests with their team, while chef Philippe Funel develops a menu that changes roughly every three months. The setting gives the meal a distinctive character: a cave dining room rather than a conventional streetfront restaurant, suited to a shared celebration or a meal for two. The autumn selection combines familiar French ingredients with pasta, seafood and carefully assembled sauces. Starters include sea bream ceviche with coconut, vanilla and pineapple-lime gel, and a softly cooked egg with homemade butter brioche, Corsican coppa and Parmesan. A house speciality is linguine finished in a wheel of Parmesan and flambéed. Another pasta dish pairs pappardelle with Charolais beef, pan-fried foie gras and summer truffle. Fish preparations include salmon with Jerusalem artichoke cream, spelt and roasted hazelnuts, while monkfish comes with a concentrated bouillabaisse-style sauce. Meat choices range from veal to roast lamb and flambéed Charolais fillet. The seasonal burger uses homemade laminated brioche and is accompanied by homemade fries. Desserts continue the autumn theme with mandarin and chestnut tiramisu, apple with calisson cream, and homemade ice creams or sorbets. A separate children's menu offers meat, fish or pasta. Tables are reserved online, with a bank-card guarantee requested. Guests bringing a pushchair or a dog are asked to mention this when booking so the team can arrange a suitable place.

11 Rue des Endronnes, 83300 Draguignan

+33481684599

L'Androuno is a small restaurant on Rue des Endronnes in central Draguignan, where Frédéric Chenillot's cooking combines French traditions with seasonal ideas. Caroline Di Lena looks after reservations and the welcome, while Frédéric works in the kitchen. The couple have managed the restaurant together since June 2014, giving the place a personal character shaped by their complementary roles. The dining room accommodates around fifteen guests. Outside, a terrace provides another setting for a meal and can become a pergola in colder weather. This modest scale is part of the restaurant's appeal: it offers a relatively intimate place to eat within the town centre, with space for both individual tables and organised gatherings. Fresh produce guides the kitchen, and the main menu changes approximately every three months. A separate daily selection allows the chef to respond more frequently to available ingredients. His approach draws on regional French cooking while leaving room for new combinations and adaptations. One example highlighted by the house is creamy lemon risotto with prawns, presented in different variations. Guests can choose from the available menus or order individual dishes. Takeaway meals can be arranged by reservation, and the restaurant also offers catering. For a family celebration, a meeting or a private gathering, the dining spaces can be booked with a menu discussed in advance. Reservation requests are available online, allowing visitors to contact the team before planning a meal or an occasion.

Le Domino

Draguignan · French · Mediterranean · Lunch

28 Avenue Lazare Carnot, 83300 Draguignan

+33494525342

Le Domino combines a restaurant, guest rooms and private reception spaces on Avenue Lazare Carnot in Draguignan. The restaurant is set in a historic town building with a garden behind it, bringing a sheltered outdoor setting to an address close to the centre. Its cooking follows French traditions with Provençal and Mediterranean influences, using fresh ingredients and a menu that changes with the seasons. Chef Jacques Rolancy leads the kitchen. His career has included restaurants in France and Britain, and he also takes an interest in passing his experience to younger cooks. At Domino, the emphasis is on carefully prepared dishes served in surroundings intended to feel welcoming as well as considered. The choice includes a bistro selection, a restaurant menu and a separate chef's menu. Recent dishes illustrate the range: veal blanquette with vegetables and white rice, followed by a lychee, rose and raspberry parfait, or beef onglet with roasted parsnip and small potatoes. These are examples of a changing kitchen rather than a fixed list of permanent specialities. For private occasions, a reception room with a traditional fireplace can accommodate up to fifty seated guests. The layout can be adapted for family meals, intimate weddings, anniversaries or business gatherings. Menus, seated meals and cocktail receptions are discussed with the team. A private garden adds space for an aperitif or a break outdoors, while the restaurant terrace offers another way to enjoy the setting. Ordinary tables can be requested through the online booking service.

Via Pallaresus 16, 09049 Villasimius

Le Anfore is the restaurant of the family-owned Hotel Le Anfore, a three-star house with 20 rooms furnished in wood, wrought iron and Sardinian fabrics, on Via Pallaresus at the edge of the town. The restaurant is open to anyone, not just hotel guests, for lunch and dinner. The kitchen works with Sardinian and Mediterranean recipes built on fresh local fish and meat and other regional produce, with antipasti, pasta and mains that change with what the market brings. There are two places to sit: an air-conditioned dining room with about 160 seats, and, in the summer months, a broad veranda opening onto a garden full of flowers. That garden also serves for aperitivo in spring, and the house takes wedding banquets and receptions for up to 220 guests, which tells you the kitchen is used to feeding large tables at once. For families in a vacation rental nearby, this is the practical choice when nobody wants to hunt for a parking space: the hotel has a large lot of its own inside the grounds, and cards are accepted. The town center with its shops and evening passeggiata is within easy reach, while the beaches and the marina lie roughly two kilometers away by car. Tables can be reserved by phone at +39 070 792032, which is worth doing on summer evenings when the veranda fills with hotel guests first. The full menu is published online through a link on the restaurant's site, so you can check the day's dishes before you set off. If you are traveling with a larger family group, the size of the room means a table for ten is not a problem.

La Perla is the pastry shop and café run under the name of Mercedes Cadoni at Via del Mare 104-106, on the road that leads from the center of Villasimius down toward the marina. It opens at 6:30 in the morning, six days a week, and stays closed on Tuesdays. The counter holds what an Italian pasticceria should: cornetti and cream-filled shells for breakfast, mignon pastries, fruit tartlets, single-portion desserts, semifreddi and Sicilian cannoli, plus savory pizzette and focaccia. The reason to come here rather than to any bar, though, is the Sardinian sweets made in-house: gueffus, pabassinas, pardulas, pane 'e saba and amaretti, the biscuits and small cakes that families on the island bake for feast days. All of it is baked on the premises, and cakes for birthdays, weddings and other celebrations can be ordered, including lactose-free versions. For a family staying in a vacation rental nearby, La Perla works as the morning routine: coffee and pastries at one of the tables outside or at the counter, then a tray of sweets to take back to the house. Around midday it also serves a light lunch of large salads and a tagliere of cured meats and cheese, and the shop does catering for parties held in a rented villa. There is parking next door, cards are accepted, and the marina and the beaches beyond are a short drive down the same road. Table service costs a little more than standing at the bar. Phone orders for cakes go to +39 070 791326.

La Vela Ristorante Pizzeria

Via degli Oleandri 12, 09049 Villasimius

+393928780232

Mon–Fri 11:00–15:00, 19:00–23:30; Sat–Sun 11:00–15:00, 19:00–24:00

La Vela sits inside the Marina di Villasimius, the tourist port on Via degli Oleandri, with a terrace that looks straight over the moored sailboats and, in the evening, the sunset behind the harbor. Inside there is a climate-controlled dining room for hot afternoons or windy nights. The menu has two halves. One is fish: the kitchen buys daily from local markets and fishermen along the south Sardinian coast, so the board changes with what came in, typically tuna, sea bream, squid, mussels, shellfish and crustaceans, served raw, grilled or fried, with homemade pasta such as fregola with seafood and spaghetti allo scoglio. The other half is pizza from a wood-fired oven, made with Italian flours and a long-fermented dough. Olive oil, cheeses and wines come from Sardinian producers; for dessert there are seadas and tiramisu, and a slow-cooked suckling pig in cannonau reduction covers the meat side. The restaurant opens every day for lunch from 11:00 to 15:00 and for dinner from 19:00, closing at 23:30 on weekdays and midnight on Saturday and Sunday. Tables can be booked online through the link on its website or by phone at +39 392 8780232, and in July and August the terrace seats are the first to go. Getting there from a rental in the town center is about 3 km on foot; most families drive, and in summer a shuttle runs between the port, the town and the main beaches every twenty minutes or so. There is free parking at the marina, and the beach at Porto Giunco, with its shallow water for small children, is close to the port. Because it is a pizzeria as well as a fish restaurant, a mixed group with picky eaters is easy to seat.

Località Campus, 09049 Villasimius

+39070798021

Il Miraggio has stood on Campus beach since 1971, when Raffaele Cogoni and his wife Maria built it as a wooden house with a reed roof. Their daughter Ignazia now runs the dining room with her own children, and Antonio heads the kitchen. The building is still all wood inside and out, with 130 seats indoors and around 250 outside; in the warm months tables are set on the terrace and directly on the sand, about 30 meters from the water, looking across Porto sa Ruxi toward Capo Carbonara and the Isola dei Cavoli. The house speciality is cooking over the large open grill, which sits in view of the guests. Seafood comes in as white fish, soup fish, scampi, prawns, lobster, clams, mussels, oysters, squid and octopus; the menu includes fish soup, fregola with sea-anemone sauce, spaghetti with clams or with sea urchin, black ravioli filled with grouper, and a fisherman's risotto. Meat eaters get malloreddus with sausage and saffron, roast suckling pig and lamb, and potatoes peeled and fried to order. Desserts are seadas, fried ravioli with honey and ricotta, and tiramisu. Sardinian cannonau, vermentino, nuragus and malvasia share the list with a few international labels, and gluten-free dishes are available. For a family staying in a rental in Villasimius, the beach and the restaurant are one outing: Campus lies about 3 km west of the town center on the coast road toward Cagliari, roughly 40 minutes from the city. Turn off the SP17 at km 34.7 beside the Hotel Cormoran; a large parking area sits right at the beach. Book by phone in summer, especially for a front-row table at sunset. The house also hosts beach weddings and private parties from May to September, and food can be ordered to take away.

Mon–Thu 19:30–23:00; Fri–Sun 12:30–14:30, 19:30–23:00

Sa Morisca takes its name from the Sardinian word for the prickly pear. It has been run by the same family since 2003 under the arcades at the end of Via del Mare, at Via Matteotti 7-9, right in the center of Villasimius. The room is fitted out in stone and wood with plants and warm lighting, and there is a terrace and a small garden for eating outside. The kitchen does fresh fish from local waters, Sardinian dishes such as culurgiones, spaghetti with clams and bottarga, fregula, tuna tataki and beef fillet in cannonau, plus the day's catch grilled and priced by weight. Pizzas come from a wood-fired oven, with classics alongside house pizzas named after local beaches like Giunco and Is Traias. What sets the place apart for coeliac guests is its certification by the Italian Coeliac Association: gluten-free pizzas are baked in dedicated ovens, most of the menu can be ordered without gluten, and there is a gluten-free beer and Sardinian craft beers on the list, along with gin and tonics built on Sardinian gins. For a family in a rental, this is the easy evening in town: the restaurant serves dinner every day from 19:30 to 23:00, lunch only on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays from 12:30 to 14:30, and the same hours apply year round. The menu has its own children's section with plain pasta, a burger and a cutlet. Reservations are taken by phone at +39 331 1810817 or by email, and pizzas can be ordered to take back to the house. Note the cover charge on the menu and the small surcharge for a gluten-free base. The full menu with prices is published on the restaurant's website.
