Via Giacomo Matteotti 46, 23824 Dervio

+393396778394

Dietro L'Angolo is a family-run trattoria and pizzeria on Via Giacomo Matteotti in Dervio. Leonardo and Barbara combine the dishes of Lombardy with a broad pizza, grill and seafood menu, making it a practical local choice for couples, families or friends with different appetites. The restaurant has an indoor dining room, terrace and bar, with the wood-fired oven forming an important part of evening service. For a regional meal, start with sciatt, the crisp buckwheat fritters filled with Casera cheese, or a board of cured meats and cheeses. Pizzoccheri come with potatoes, seasonal greens, cheese, butter and sage and are ordered for at least two people. Other first courses include saffron-and-sausage risotto, beef-ragù tagliatelle and linguine with clams. The pizza selection ranges from Margherita and Napoli to the house version with sausage, Gorgonzola and onion. Vegetarian toppings, calzoni and richer combinations with porcini or speck widen the choice. Away from pizza, there are sliced grilled beef, burgers, a breaded pork cutlet and mixed fried seafood. Homemade panna cotta, tiramisù and crema catalana offer a familiar finish. A set lunch is available from Monday to Saturday, while groups of at least four can ask about the evening Giro Pizza format. Lunch is served daily, with Tuesday evening the regular closure. Reserve by phone, especially for a group, and discuss dietary requirements directly: although alternative pizza bases are offered, the restaurant explicitly notes that preparation takes place in a shared kitchen.

Ristorante La Darsena

Bellano · Italian · Fish and seafood · Vegetarian

Via Carlo Alberto 8, 23822 Bellano

+390341810317

La Darsena in Bellano brings the Moschetti family's Valtellina cooking to a dining room overlooking Lake Como. Large windows frame the water, and an open kitchen lets guests see the preparation behind the meal. The restaurant is set in the town's old silk-mill complex on Via Carlo Alberto, making it a natural place to pause for lunch or dinner while exploring Bellano. Handmade pizzoccheri are the kitchen's signature, prepared to a longstanding family recipe. Sciatt, the crisp buckwheat fritters with a Casera cheese centre, and a Valtellina starter with bresaola introduce the mountain side of the menu. Local cured meats and valley cheeses, including Storico Ribelle, continue that connection to the region. The lake is equally present at the table. A selection of lake-fish starters includes small fish prepared in carpione, while rice with perch follows the traditional local approach. Trout with citrus gives another fish option. For a meat course, the restaurant offers beef fillet cooked sous vide and finished with whisky and honey, as well as heartier seasonal preparations. Desserts include buckwheat cake and an apple cake based on a family recipe. The wine list and a selection of Italian craft beers provide several ways to accompany the dishes. Reserve ahead if a table by the windows matters to you, particularly at weekends. Monday is the regular closing day, and same-day reservations are handled by telephone. Groups larger than eight should also call so the restaurant can discuss the most suitable arrangement.

Bellano · Italian · Pizza · Fish and seafood

Example photo of the cuisine — not photographed at this venue Elena Vcheva / Pexels

Via Vittorio Veneto 29, 23822 Bellano

+390341810307

Cavallo Bianco is a longstanding restaurant and pizzeria on Bellano's lakefront, with an indoor dining room and a terrace directly beside Lake Como. Chef Alberto Riva and Daniela lead a kitchen that combines local lake-and-valley dishes with wood-fired pizza and pinsa. The generous range makes it a useful address for a family meal or for friends returning from a day exploring the eastern shore. Pizza choices run from Margherita and buffalo-mozzarella Bufalina to more distinctive combinations such as pear with Taleggio or apple with Gorgonzola. The house Cavallo Bianco is presented as half pizza and half calzone, with porcini, Parmesan and spicy salami. Vegetarian and anchovy-topped varieties sit alongside the familiar ham, mushroom and four-cheese options. For a meal from the restaurant kitchen, starters include missoltini with polenta, sciatt and smoked trout with orange. Pizzoccheri are available for at least two people, and the pasta selection includes perch-filled ravioli with herbs and pistachio. Grilled trout, sea bass, mixed fried lake fish and meat dishes give the table plenty of alternatives to pizza. Children's chicken with fries is also listed. The dessert menu includes tiramisù, buckwheat cake with blueberries and panna cotta with berry sauce. A lake-facing table is worth requesting when booking, particularly in busy holiday periods. Lunch and dinner are served throughout the year, but the usual Monday closure changes in peak season, so telephone the restaurant to confirm the schedule for your visit.

Crotto di Biosio

Frazione Biosio 1, 23822 Bellano

+390341821362

Crotto di Biosio sits on the hillside above Bellano, where terraces open towards Lake Como and the surrounding mountains. Indoors, rooms with fireplaces give the restaurant a welcoming setting in cooler weather. Behind them is the natural grotto used as a pantry, a reminder of the traditional purpose of a crotto. The establishment grew from a local meeting place and walkers' stop into the family restaurant it is today. The kitchen draws on the nearby valleys, using cured meats, cheeses and seasonal produce alongside fish and meat dishes. A mixed starter features salumi from Marco d'Oggiono with sweet-and-sour vegetables. Homemade grape-and-walnut bread is paired with natural blue cheese and honey from Biosio, while local cheeses can be ordered with preserves or honey. First courses include pumpkin-and-Taleggio crêpes, fresh egg pasta with sausage ragù and layered pasta with salmon trout, courgette and lake-fish roe. Heartier choices bring lamb cutlets with courgette and mint, grilled sausage with polenta, and skewers served with polenta. A cheese-rich polenta preparation and vegetable sides give companions further options without relying on the same meat dishes. House desserts and wines by the glass allow the meal to end simply or continue at a slower pace. The location suits a meal planned around a visit to the hillside, with the outdoor terraces particularly attractive in suitable weather. Contact the restaurant to reserve and check the current menu and opening days, then use the Biosio address when arranging your route up from Bellano.

Via Al Confine 16/A, 23823 Colico

+390341930257

Il Mercante al Laghetto pairs the cooking of the upper lake and Valtellina with an unusual setting beside a small natural pond in Colico's industrial area. The restaurant has indoor and outdoor spaces, so it can work for a straightforward lunch as well as a longer dinner. Use the Via Al Confine address when planning a visit; the pond setting is separate from Colico's main Lake Como waterfront. Regional starters include sciatt, taroz, bresaola with rocket and Parmesan, and boards of cured meats or cheeses. The tasting menu is designed for the whole table and begins with a mixed house starter before a selection of first courses and dessert. It is an option for at least two people who want to explore several parts of the kitchen's repertoire together. Handmade pizzoccheri share the menu with Valchiavenna gnocchetti and a wide range of filled pasta. Ravioli can feature perch with butter and sage, whitefish with almonds and lime, or polenta with Casera cheese. Main courses include a breaded veal cutlet, roast veal, ribs with polenta taragna and whitefish in butter and sage. Grilled tomino cheese and seasonal vegetable sides provide additional choices. Children have simpler pasta and chicken dishes, while dessert options include tiramisù, panna cotta and fruit sorbets. The restaurant recommends booking at weekends. It currently serves lunch every day and dinner from Tuesday to Sunday, with Monday evening closed. Telephone ahead to reserve and confirm any particular dish or outdoor seating preference.

Via Tivoli 3, 20121 Milan

Mon 12:00–14:30, 18:30–22:15; Tue 12:00–14:30, 18:30–22:15; Wed 12:00–14:30, 18:30–22:15; Thu 12:00–14:30, 18:30–22:15; Fri 12:00–14:30, 18:30–22:15; Sat 12:00–14:30, 18:30–22:15; Sun 12:00–14:30, 18:30–22:15

Gloria Osteria is an Italian restaurant on Via Tivoli, in the Brera district of Milan. It belongs to the Big Mamma Group, which also runs rooms in Paris, Barcelona, Dublin and Dubai, and the Milan house is the group's Italian one — cooking the country it comes from rather than exporting it. The room is the argument. Seven hundred and forty square metres under eight tall windows, so it is full of daylight in a way few Milanese restaurants manage, furnished with coloured velvet armchairs and built around a counter of Giallo Siena marble. The house describes the look as 1960s glamour, and that is a fair summary: it is theatrical on purpose, and it photographs the way it is meant to. The kitchen is run by chef Manuel and his brigade, and works through the Italian regions rather than one of them, offered either as a tasting menu or à la carte. Cocktails and a selected Italian wine list are served at the marble counter. The group is a certified B Corporation. Service runs every day in two sittings, midday to half past two and half past six to a quarter past ten. Booking is advisable — this is one of the most heavily reviewed restaurants in the city, with close to twelve thousand ratings. Brera is the old artists' quarter, walkable from the Duomo and served by the Lanza and Moscova metro stops. You will find Gloria Osteria at Via Tivoli 3, 20121 Milano.

Maccheroni stands on Via San Carpoforo in Brera and calls itself La Carbonara N°1 di Milano — the number one carbonara in Milan. That is a claim rather than a title, and the restaurant is direct about staking it, which is a reasonable thing to know before you walk in: carbonara is the dish it wants to be judged on. The wider idea is domestic cooking taken seriously. The house describes it as the flavours of home, the way they used to be — but better: the dishes a mother and a grandmother would have cooked, rebuilt with the technique of a professional kitchen. In practice that means a short menu of Italian classics rather than a survey of the regions, and it is the difference between a trattoria and a restaurant doing trattoria food. It opens every day from half past twelve until half past ten at night, straight through with no afternoon break. Tables can be booked through the restaurant's own site, by telephone, or by e-mail. Via San Carpoforo is a quiet street in the middle of Brera, the old artists' quarter, a few minutes on foot from the Pinacoteca di Brera and from the Lanza metro stop. It is a part of the city where the streets are narrow enough that a restaurant is found rather than passed, which suits this one. You will find Maccheroni at Via San Carpoforo 7, 20121 Milano.

Ristorante Galleria sits inside the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II, the glass-roofed arcade that runs between the Duomo and La Scala. That address is the whole of its character: you eat under the iron and glass of the 1870s, in what is arguably the most photographed interior space in Milan, with the mosaic floor and the passing crowd as the setting. One practical point matters more than anything else here, and the restaurant states it plainly on its own site: the only way to reach them is by e-mail, to info@ristorantegalleria.it, and a booking counts only once they have confirmed it by e-mail in return. They do not use WhatsApp or any messaging service. Anyone booking through a third party claiming otherwise is not booking this restaurant. The kitchen is open long hours — from ten in the morning until midnight, every day of the week — so it covers a mid-morning coffee, lunch, an afternoon in the arcade and a late dinner after the opera. Tables stand out in the Galleria itself. The location makes it one of the easiest addresses in Milan to find and one of the hardest to get a table at on short notice: the Duomo metro stop empties directly into the arcade. If you are staying in the centre, you will pass the door whether you plan to or not. You will find Ristorante Galleria at Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II 75, 20121 Milano.

Princi is a Milanese bakery, and the shop on Via Speronari is a few steps from the Duomo. The house has been baking since 1986 under the name L'Artigiano del Pane — the craftsman of bread — and it is one of the small number of Milanese food names that became international without leaving: there are Princi bakeries in the United States, Japan, China and Kuwait, all of them selling what the company calls the spirit of Milan. What is sold is bread, pizza, focaccia and pastries, baked through the day rather than in one morning batch, which is why the counter looks different at nine in the morning and at five in the afternoon. Focaccia and pizza al taglio are sold by weight and eaten standing or taken away, and that is how most of the queue uses the place: this is a bakery, not a restaurant, and there is no table service. It opens every day from half past seven in the morning until half past seven in the evening — long hours by Milanese standards, and unusual in covering Sunday. Via Speronari is a short pedestrian street running off Via Torino, inside the block between the Duomo and Piazza Missori. If you are staying in the centre this is the practical answer to breakfast, and a better one than the hotel buffet. You will find Princi at Via Speronari 6, 20123 Milan.

Piz is a pizzeria on Via Torino in central Milan, and by review count it is the most talked-about place to eat in the city — more than sixteen thousand people have rated it, far ahead of any restaurant in Milan. It has been open for over ten years, which in a city where fashions and venues turn over quickly is the point the house makes about itself. The format is deliberately narrow: Neapolitan-style pizza, a short menu, a low price band. There is seating outdoors and pizza can be collected to take away. What the numbers describe is a room that is busy from midday onwards, and the queue outside is part of the experience rather than a sign that something went wrong — going early or late is the practical advice. It is open every day. Monday and Tuesday it runs in two sittings, midday to three and seven to eleven; from Wednesday to Sunday it stays open straight through from midday to eleven at night. Via Torino leads southwest out of Piazza del Duomo towards the Carrobbio, so this is a five-minute walk from the cathedral and inside the ring most visitors never leave. If you are staying anywhere central you can walk here, and the street itself is one of Milan's busiest shopping runs. You will find Piz at Via Torino 34, 20123 Milano.

Via Pasteria on Corso Italia does one thing: pasta. The house motto is "for the love of pasta", and the menu is built around it rather than treating it as the first of several courses — which is a departure from the usual Italian structure and the reason the place works for a quick lunch as readily as for dinner. The list changes with the season, and there is a dish of the month alongside it. Recent examples give the flavour of the kitchen: linguine with organic Parmesan, Sicilian lemon, chives and sturgeon caviar; cold conchigliette with cave-aged pecorino, confit tomatoes, Cerignola olives, Sicilian lemon and crusco pepper; paccheri alla Norma with marinated purple aubergine, twenty-four-month Parmigiano Reggiano from Vacche Rosse cattle and salted ricotta; linguine with clams and bottarga. The ingredients are named down to the breed of cow, which tells you where the attention goes. It is open every day, straight through from midday to half past ten at night, with no afternoon closure — genuinely useful in a city where most kitchens shut between three and seven and a late lunch becomes impossible. Corso Italia runs south from the Duomo towards Porta Ludovica, a few minutes' walk from the cathedral and from the Missori metro stop, so this is easy to reach on foot from anywhere in the historic centre. You will find Via Pasteria at Corso Italia 16, 20122 Milano.

Morgenrot is a chalet restaurant in the meadows of Bedemie above Gressoney-La-Trinité, run by its owner, Giorgio. The kitchen keeps to the Aosta Valley: fondue chinoise, polenta concia rich with melted cheese, and zuppa alla valpellinentze, the local soup of bread, cabbage and fontina baked in the oven. The wine list stays close to home too, with labels from the Aosta Valley and Piedmont. In winter the chalet sits in deep snow and is reached on skis during the day. For dinner a snowcat picks guests up and brings them back down again, which turns an evening meal into a small expedition. In summer it is a walk across green pastures.

In winter skiers stop on the snow terrace facing the Monte Rosa massif; in summer hikers come up on the trail from Stafal or ride the lifts via Sant'Anna. The hut is large and spread over two floors. The menu mixes Aosta Valley and Piedmontese dishes with pizza, sandwiches and toasts for a quick stop between runs, the cellar holds a good range of wines, and the bar serves beer, coffee and hot chocolate. It is open for as long as the lifts are running.

Run by the Comola family's company, it works as two places in one. At lunchtime it is a self-service with quick dishes, hot sandwiches and Aosta Valley plates for skiers and hikers; in the evening it becomes a restaurant with regional cooking, and on Saturdays in season a high-altitude dinner with a snowcat ride up after the lifts have closed. Località Negrese 308, 29010 Ziano Piacentino

+390523864804

Agriturismo Il Negrese is a family-run farm and winery in the hills of Ziano Piacentino. Its restaurant is part of the same property as the guest accommodation, making it the natural first dining address for guests staying at Il Negrese. The dining room was created in the farm's former barn, preserving a connection with the building's working history. The kitchen focuses on the traditions of Piacenza rather than a broad international menu. Handmade pasta, homemade bread and cakes are central to the offer described by the local tourism authorities. The farm's own wines accompany the cooking, so a meal can also introduce visitors to the local wine-growing landscape around Ziano. This is a place to contact in advance. The official tourism listing describes meals as available by reservation on both weekdays and holidays, without promising a fixed daily walk-in schedule. Ask what the kitchen is preparing, whether a set menu applies and how dietary requirements can be accommodated. An overnight stay does not automatically mean that dinner is included in the accommodation price. Use the full Località Negrese 308 address and the agriturismo's published telephone number when arranging your visit. The dining building and guest rooms are adjacent, while visitors staying elsewhere can enquire about a restaurant reservation. Reserved parking is listed by the tourism office. For a group meal or a visit centered on the wines, discuss the arrangements directly before traveling into the hills.

Today Marysa looks after the dining room and chef Boris Melon runs the kitchen. The cooking is Aosta Valley and Piedmontese, built on produce from close by: the valley's cured meats and cheeses, fresh pasta made in the house with a choice of sauces, and game served with polenta. The ice cream is homemade, in flavors that follow the season, and Boris and Marysa are glad to suggest a bottle from the wine list.

The dining room is old stone with a fireplace and candles; in summer the tables move out under the porticoes, and there is a play area for children, which makes it an easy Sunday lunch for families. The food is Piacenza cooking without shortcuts: house cured meats, gnocco fritto, tortelli and pisarei made in the kitchen, roasts, and the Gutturnio of the hills to drink. It opens Wednesday to Sunday, lunch and dinner except Sunday evening; there are rooms and apartments for anyone who wants to stay after the wine.

La Colombaia is an agriturismo above Ziano Piacentino, in the westernmost of the Piacenza valleys. The land was in the family for years before Guido turned it into an agriturismo, and the kitchen is described by the house as cucina piacentina doc — the cooking of this province and no other. The estate is arranged for eating outdoors without depending on the weather: three dining rooms stand in the open but under cover, all of them looking out over the valley, with a bar area for drinks and two further rooms inside. That combination is worth knowing in a region where a summer evening can turn without warning. It sits among the hills and is used as a starting point for the country around it — mountain biking, riding and walking all begin at the door, and the valley is crossed by roads that lead through the historical, scenic and gastronomic parts of the province. The Colli Piacentini are wine country: Gutturnio, Ortrugo and Malvasia are grown on these slopes, and Ziano Piacentino is one of the centres of that. Opening is limited and worth planning around. Friday evening only from eight to ten; Saturday lunch from half past twelve and dinner from eight; Sunday the same with lunch running until half past three. Monday to Thursday it is closed. You will find La Colombaia at Località Arcello 1, 29010 Ziano Piacentino.

Locanda San Lupo stands among the hills and vineyards above Ziano Piacentino, and its own line for itself is where taste meets the sunset. That is a fair description of what it sells: the terrace looks out over the vines, and the house treats the evening light as part of the meal rather than as scenery that happens to be there. It is more than a dining room, in its own account — a refuge in the quiet of the hills, where the point is that time slows down. In practice that means it works for two quite different occasions: a family Sunday lunch, and a dinner for two once the lights come on. There is a wine list, which matters here — these slopes are the Colli Piacentini, and Gutturnio, Ortrugo and Malvasia are grown in the fields the terrace looks at. The hours are unusual and worth reading twice: this is an evening restaurant. It serves dinner from eight to eleven every day except Wednesday, when it is closed, and it does not open for lunch at all. Anyone arriving at midday will find the door shut. Ziano Piacentino lies in the Val Tidone, about forty minutes south-west of Piacenza and well inside an hour of Milan, which makes this a plausible evening out from the city as well as a local one. You will find Locanda San Lupo at Strada Comunale Lupo 101, 29010 Ziano Piacentino.

Le Proposte is a family restaurant in the hamlet of Corano, in Borgonovo Val Tidone, in the hills of the province of Piacenza. Its beginning is unusual and the family tells it plainly: twenty-five years ago Danila and Luigi, with their daughter Manuela, bought a farmhouse in a panoramic position meaning it to be a second home. Cooking took over. In the year 2000 the house opened as a restaurant, and it has been run by the family ever since. The kitchen is traditional and the work is done on the premises: cured meats are aged in the restaurant's own cellars, the pasta is made in the house, and the ingredients are handled daily rather than bought prepared. In this part of Emilia that is not a marketing line — salumi and hand-made pasta are what the province is known for, and doing both in-house is the difference between a country restaurant and a country restaurant worth driving to. The dining room seats about forty. In summer lunch and dinner are served on the panoramic terrace, which is the reason the farmhouse was bought in the first place. It is closed on Monday and Tuesday. From Wednesday to Saturday it serves lunch from half past twelve to two and dinner from eight to eleven; on Sunday the evening ends an hour earlier. Booking is sensible in a room of forty seats. You will find Le Proposte at Frazione Corano 35, 29011 Borgonovo Val Tidone, Piacenza.

Antica trattoria Del Tempio stands on Via Creta in Vicobarone, a hamlet of Ziano Piacentino in the Val Tidone. The name is the owners' own and says what kind of house it is: a trattoria, and an old one — the everyday restaurant of an Italian village rather than a destination built for visitors. The opening hours describe how it is used. Lunch is served every day except Wednesday, from midday to half past two. Dinner exists on Friday and Saturday only, from eight to ten. A kitchen arranged that way is cooking for people who eat their main meal in the middle of the day, which in this part of Emilia is still most of them, and it means a visitor planning an evening here on a Tuesday will find it closed. Vicobarone sits in the Colli Piacentini, the wine hills between the Po plain and the Apennine ridge. The province is known for three cured meats with protected status — coppa, pancetta and salame piacentino — and for Gutturnio, the red grown on these slopes. Ziano Piacentino is one of the centres of that production, and Vicobarone is one of its hamlets. We hold no website for this trattoria, so nothing is described here about its cooking. The telephone is the way to ask, and to book. You will find it at Via Creta 6, 29010 Vicobarone, Ziano Piacentino.

La Palta stands in Bilegno, a hamlet so small that the restaurant describes itself as a hidden gem behind uneven walls — set among gentle hills, kitchen gardens and old houses in the province of Piacenza. The building gives nothing away from the road, which is part of how the place presents itself. The cooking is ambitious rather than rustic, and the house says so in its own words: the eyes come before the nose and the palate. Unexpected combinations are the method. Two dishes stand for the range — tortelli con la coda, the tailed parcels that are the signature pasta of Piacenza and are folded here in the traditional way, and black ravioli served in an exotic broth that belongs to no local tradition at all. The kitchen is run by a female chef, and the house describes eating here as travelling between the smells of home and inspirations from far away. Gift vouchers for a lunch or dinner are sold through the restaurant's own site. Service runs Tuesday to Saturday, lunch from half past twelve to half past two and dinner from eight to ten. On Sunday there is lunch only, and Monday it is closed. Booking is advisable: the room is small and the restaurant draws people from well beyond the province. You will find La Palta at Frazione Bilegno 67, 29011 Bilegno, Piacenza.

Schloss Wartegg's restaurant in Rorschacherberg connects its cooking directly with the castle grounds. A 2,500-square-metre biodynamic garden supplies herbs, vegetables, berries and flowers, including heritage varieties grown in the ProSpecieRara garden. The restaurant's garden terrace looks across the English-style park towards Lake Constance, giving a meal here a setting distinct from the waterfront restaurants below. The kitchen uses the garden in specific dishes rather than only as a backdrop. Its autumn menu includes pumpkin cannelloni with mushrooms and walnuts, garden leaves with pickled vegetables, and baked pumpkin with parsley root and apple. Vegetarian and vegan dishes are clearly identified, while seasonal availability can lead to changes in the menu. Fish comes according to the catch from local professional fishermen Timon and Claudio Görtz. Other dishes draw on Swiss organic farms, such as filled pasta using Black Angus beef from Biohof Enderlin. The cheese selection comes from organic dairies in St. Gallen. These named suppliers and the garden harvest give guests a useful picture of the restaurant's ingredient-led approach. Lunch has its own changing menus, while the evening offers the main à-la-carte selection. Between meals, there are homemade cakes, ice creams, sorbets and organic teas. Hot food is served during separate lunchtime and evening windows, although the restaurant remains open between them. Reserve a table directly and mention dietary needs in advance; the team can explain the day's preparations and the available seating on the terrace.

Bahnhofstrasse 17, 9326 Horn

Costa Verde brings a Spanish menu to Bahnhofstrasse in Horn. Host Paco Galan's restaurant offers a particularly wide choice of fish and seafood, together with grilled meat and traditional starters. It is an evening address through most of the week, with an earlier opening on Sunday and Monday as the closing day. The starters make it possible to explore several familiar Spanish flavours. Choices include tortilla, octopus salad, Galician-style octopus, marinated anchovies, Manchego cheese and cured ham. Prawns appear grilled, on skewers or in garlic sauce, alongside squid, mussels and clams. A few starters can introduce the seafood emphasis before a larger plate. Among the main dishes are a mixed fish-and-seafood grill, sole, turbot and monkfish. One monkfish preparation combines the fish with prawns and shellfish in a clay pot. Meat options include lamb chops, marinated skewers and grilled veal, pork or chicken. Paella is available only by advance order for at least two people, making a telephone call important if that is what you want to eat. Dessert keeps the Spanish thread with homemade crema catalana and a nougat ice-cream cake, alongside other ice creams. The menu gives a choice of potatoes, vegetables, rice or salad as accompaniments. Contact the restaurant directly to book, arrange the paella and discuss dietary requirements. Check kitchen service before arriving late, since the published closing time describes the restaurant rather than a guaranteed last food order.

Seestrasse 36, 9326 Horn

Al Porto and its Giardino terrace form the Mediterranean restaurant at Bad Horn Hotel & Spa on Seestrasse. Large windows connect the indoor dining room with Lake Constance, while the summer terrace sits directly beside the hotel's harbour. You can book a restaurant table without making an overnight stay part of your plans. The seasonal menu combines fish, meat and vegetable dishes. Recent autumn choices include whitefish with lemon-and-caper beurre blanc, sea bass with polenta and roasted vegetables, and pikeperch with porcini fettuccine. A veal cordon bleu with prosciutto, smoked mozzarella and basil gives a Mediterranean variation on a familiar Swiss dish. The selection changes, so treat these as examples of the kitchen's style. Vegetarian diners have dedicated dishes such as mushroom fettuccine and baked pumpkin, while tomato-and-basil fagottini are specifically marked vegan. Desserts range from tiramisu with plum ragout to apple tarte tatin and homemade ice cream. Between the main meal periods, a separate smaller menu provides snacks and sweet options for a shorter stop by the water. The current main menu gives separate lunch and dinner service windows. Booking is advisable, particularly for the waterside terrace; at busy times the restaurant may allocate different evening sittings. Accessible facilities and parking are listed by Switzerland Tourism. Discuss dietary requirements with the service team when reserving, and ask which terrace or indoor tables are available for your visit.

Seestrasse 68, 9326 Horn

Lido is a restaurant on Seestrasse in Horn, with a modern setting beside Lake Constance. Silvia Hafner's restaurant combines a regular menu with changing weekday meals and seasonal dishes. It is a useful local choice when you want familiar Swiss-style cooking and a broad selection, rather than a meal built around a tasting menu. The main menu includes minced meat with macaroni and apple sauce, homemade meatloaf, pork piccata and several schnitzel preparations. Cordon bleu receives particular attention, with pork or veal versions and fillings that include the Bündner combination of cured ham and cheese. Smaller portions are listed for guests with a lighter appetite. Fish choices include crisp pikeperch pieces with tartare sauce and perch fillets with almonds, rice and vegetables. Vegetarian alternatives include tomato spaghetti, fried Camembert with salad and a vegetable schnitzel. The weekly menu offers another way to choose, so look at the day's dishes before deciding from the main card. The team can explain the allergens in individual preparations. Lido opens in the morning throughout the year, but closing times change between summer and winter. A brunch takes place on the first Sunday of each month from 08:00 to 11:00 and requires a reservation. Breakfast platters can also be arranged on weekdays by advance request. Call directly for a table, to confirm winter kitchen hours or to organise a breakfast visit.

Seestrasse 66, 9320 Arbon

Restaurant Seegarten is part of the family-run hotel on Seestrasse in Arbon. It serves breakfast, lunch and dinner, with a sunny terrace and an indoor restaurant. The kitchen keeps a relatively compact seasonal menu alongside changing daily offers, making it a useful choice for a meal after exploring Arbon or the lakeside cycle route. Swiss classics sit alongside fish and vegetable dishes. The published late-summer selection includes Zurich-style sliced veal with homemade rösti, breaded pork schnitzel, pikeperch in white-wine sauce and perch in beer batter. Vegetable lasagne with mushrooms and homemade spring rolls with an edamame-and-glass-noodle salad provide meat-free alternatives. Since the card changes with the season, check the current dishes rather than expecting the same preparations year-round. The restaurant names its regional suppliers, including dairy products from Molkerei Fuchs in Rorschach, fruit and berries from Tobi Seeobst in Egnach and vegetables from an Arbon supplier. Its ingredient declaration also distinguishes imported fish and meat, so regional sourcing should not be read as a claim that every ingredient comes from Lake Constance. The hotel welcomes family celebrations and other group occasions, with separate rooms that can be arranged with the team. For an ordinary meal, the main practical detail is the split kitchen schedule: hot food is served at lunchtime and again in the early evening, although the restaurant opens from 07:30. Telephone or email for a table, to discuss a group menu or to confirm the latest seasonal selection.

Auberge de Pont-de-Nant sits at 1,253 metres at the entrance to the Vallon de Nant, beneath the Grand Muveran. The mountain setting is central to a visit: the inn is a stop on the Tour des Muverans, and the La Thomasia alpine botanical garden is around 100 metres away. Jordi, Maddy-Ann and Marco lead the current team. The kitchen follows the seasons. Its autumn menu includes venison with homemade spätzli, wild-boar parmentier and trout from Vionnaz that is marinated and smoked in-house. A mushroom small-spelt risotto provides a vegetable-focused alternative, while cheese fondue comes with several possible variations. Children have a smaller chalet macaroni dish. These are seasonal examples, so consult the current card before a special journey. Desserts continue the regional and autumn themes, with roasted figs, a raisinée cheesecake and a chocolate dessert with chestnut mousse. A shared hunter's caquelon is offered for at least two people. Reserve a table in advance, since the inn specifically warns that availability is limited during its autumn service. Access needs planning in winter. In summer the road reaches the inn and public parking is available. From roughly November to April, the last two kilometres close to vehicles; guests continue from Les Plans-sur-Bex on foot or with appropriate winter equipment, depending on conditions. Check the current route and opening dates directly, including the scheduled November closure. This is a destination meal in the mountains rather than a town-centre restaurant.

Route de Sodoleuvre 6, 1882 Gryon

+41244984006

L'Étable is a mountain restaurant in the Les Chaux area above Gryon, near Taveyannes. Its name reflects the building's original use: a former stable has been converted into a dining room for regional Swiss cooking. A broad wooden terrace looks across the surrounding mountain pastures, providing an outdoor option during suitable weather. The food follows that alpine setting. Specialities highlighted by the restaurant and regional tourism office include mushroom cassolette with rösti, roast pork knuckle with honey and half-and-half cheese fondue. Vegetable dishes and a children's selection broaden the choice. The menu changes with the season, so check which preparations are being served when you reserve. Animals are a distinctive part of a visit here. The small educational farm is reserved for restaurant guests and includes donkeys, goats, rabbits and chickens. The tourism office also describes animals in their own space behind glass beside the restaurant. For families, this gives the meal an additional point of interest without turning it into a separate outing to a distant attraction. In summer, the restaurant can be reached via the Route des Chaux from Gryon or as part of a walk from Taveyannes. It also welcomes winter visitors, with a separate terrace hut offering lighter refreshments. Opening times depend on the season and conditions; check access and food-service hours before setting out. Make a direct reservation for your table, particularly if you are organising a group or fitting lunch around a mountain walk.

Grotto 04 is a family restaurant, pizzeria and wine bar in the centre of Bex. Its menu combines Mediterranean and Italian cooking with several Kosovar specialities. The restaurant has operated since 2001 and gives local ingredients a specific role: pizza flour is produced with a Vaud farmer, vegetables come from the market and the meat is Swiss. Pizzas range from a simple Margherita to combinations using vegetables, seafood or Kosovar beef sausage. The menu also offers linguine, risotto, hand-cut beef tartare, perch fillets and burgers. Kosovar-style chicken and a wine-based meat fondue are dishes to arrange in advance for at least two people. Risotto is cooked to order, so allow a little extra time if that is your choice. There are separate options for younger guests, including pasta, small pizzas and meat dishes. Gluten-free pasta can be requested, but allergies should still be discussed with the staff before ordering. The venue is on one level and has an outdoor terrace for summer meals, making it practical for different kinds of groups. The wine bar is another distinctive part of Grotto 04, with more than 300 references and a strong emphasis on Swiss wines. Bottles can be enjoyed here or bought to take away. A small private dining room overlooking the kitchen is available by arrangement. The restaurant closes on Tuesdays and Wednesdays; reserve directly for a special dish, a group meal or a busy evening.

The Hôtel de Ville on Rue Centrale is a restaurant in the centre of Bex; despite its name, it does not offer hotel rooms. Its cooking draws on Italian and Swiss traditions, with a shaded terrace behind the dining room and additional rooms for private occasions. It works for a meal in town when your group wants a wider choice than pizza alone. The Italian side of the menu includes homemade lasagne, aubergine parmigiana, spaghetti with clams and morel risotto. Swiss dishes include Bernese rösti with bacon and egg, Tomme Vaudoise with seasonal salad and cheese fondue from Moléson. This combination allows diners to choose between pasta and local cheese-based dishes at the same table. Fish and meat broaden the selection further, from perch fillets and sea bream to beef tartare, duck breast and a house burger. A wine-based meat fondue is available by reservation for at least two people. For dessert, the restaurant lists Italian favourites such as tiramisu and Sicilian ricotta cannoli, alongside crème brûlée and chocolate cake. The kitchen prepares dishes to order and offers smaller discovery portions for children under twelve. A changing dish of the day is served from Tuesday to Friday. Ordinary service runs Tuesday to Saturday, with separate daytime and evening kitchen sessions. Sunday and Monday openings can be arranged for groups of at least fifteen. La Colonne is an Italian restaurant and pizzeria on Route de l'Allex in Bex. Mia and Orhan reopened this established family address in August 2025, bringing a new team to a house whose restaurant history stretches back to 1972. The dining room, bright veranda and terrace offer different settings for the same homemade Italian cooking. Pizza is a central part of the menu. The dough is made in-house and given a slow rise, with fresh toppings and careful baking. Beyond pizza, the kitchen prepares homemade tagliatelle, potato gnocchi and ravioli filled with ricotta. These dishes make it possible to choose a full pasta meal even when other people at the table have come specifically for pizza. The menu follows the seasons and market produce. One of the restaurant's own examples is wild-boar meatballs in tomato sauce during the game season. A changing lunchtime menu provides another option alongside the regular selection. Ask what is available that day rather than expecting seasonal dishes to remain on the card throughout the year. The terrace has a wood-burning stove, while the bar provides a place for an Italian coffee or an aperitif. La Colonne can also be booked for private occasions. It opens later on Mondays than on the rest of its working week and closes on Sundays. Via Lepanto 1, Frazione Solva, 17021 Alassio

Ristorante La Vigna sits above Alassio in the hamlet of Solva, where its terrace looks across the gulf. A grape pergola, flowers and softly coloured interiors give the osteria a different atmosphere from the busy seafront below. The setting encourages a slower meal, with the view forming part of the occasion and the kitchen keeping the ingredients of the surrounding region in focus. Its cooking brings together the western Ligurian coast, Provence and the Langhe. Fresh pasta, bread and pastries are made in house, and the menu changes with the seasons. Seafood has a central role: raw violet prawns and langoustines, local fish, tuna, octopus and gently cooked salt cod appear among the restaurant's specialities. An oyster selection offers another way to begin a meal by the coast. The pasta repertoire is particularly distinctive. Agnolotti al plin are filled with roast rabbit, while seafood tortelli, tagliolini with prawns or lobster, and Carnaroli seafood rice show the maritime side of the kitchen. Meat eaters can look for Ligurian-style rabbit, Fassona beef and slow-cooked veal. Seasonal vegetables accompany the main dishes rather than being treated as an afterthought. The restaurant also gives careful attention to its wine selection, so the meal can be planned around a bottle as well as a dish. Book a table directly and use the Solva address when arranging your journey: this is a hillside destination above the town. Ask about the current seasonal menu and terrace availability when making your reservation.
