Mestiza

Mestiza sits on the Avinguda del Rei Jaume I in Santa Ponsa and does three things: burgers, prime steak, and thin, crisp American-style pizza. The full name says so outright, which saves anyone the trouble of guessing — this is not a Mallorcan kitchen and does not pretend to be one.

The word mestiza means mixed, and the menu lives up to it. Alongside the main card there are separate lists for breakfast and for desserts, and the kitchen opens at eleven in the morning and runs to midnight, every day of the week without a closing day. Food is delivered through Just Eat.

The site is kept in five languages — Spanish, English, German, French and Italian — which is an honest picture of who eats on this avenue in August.

It belongs to the same Mallorcan group as Mercader del Mar and Balcón de María, a few doors along the same street, so the service and the standard are shared between them even though the kitchens are not.

Santa Ponsa is about twenty minutes west of Palma by car, and the avenue runs from the bypass down towards the beach with most of the town's restaurants on it. Number 92 is towards the lower end, so this is a short walk from the sand rather than from the main road — worth knowing if you are coming back off the beach hungry.
