Web Christel is a thatched restaurant on Süderstraße in the southern part of Westerland, hosted by Marc Ullrich and his team. Its dining rooms, sociable bar counter and summer terrace with beach chairs offer several settings for a meal. The name reaches back to Christel Lange, an island weaver whose handweaving and antiques business moved to this address in 1963. That earlier craft business remains part of the story behind the restaurant. The kitchen combines northern favourites with dishes drawing on a wider range of ingredients. Seafood choices include steamed cod with spinach and Dijon mustard sauce, pikeperch on Champagne sauerkraut purée, and sole with melted butter, cucumber salad and potatoes. Bouillabaisse can be ordered as a starter or a main course. Meat dishes include lamb with green beans, duck with homemade cherry red cabbage, and veal schnitzel with fried potatoes. There is a dedicated vegetarian selection, including beetroot carpaccio, vegetable noodles, Thai Panang curry and pumpkin risotto with sheep’s cheese. Seasonal additions bring asparagus, chanterelles or kale into the kitchen’s repertoire. For a structured meal, the fish and meat menus combine several courses; guests can also choose individually from the main menu. Desserts range from homemade red berry compote and tonka bean parfait to sorbets and chocolate mousse. A regional cheese selection comes from the cheese club in Keitum. Wine recommendations accompany the cooking, and table enquiries are accepted by telephone. Requests for the same day should be made by phone rather than email.
