Café Landlust is a village café on Schulstraße in Vahlbruch, on the Ottenstein plateau west of Bodenwerder. Coffee and homemade cakes are at the center of the offer, with the Landfrauen tradition giving the place a clear connection to local community life. Die Schloßwirtschaft occupies the former calf stable at Schloss Hehlen, bringing a contemporary restaurant into an agricultural building associated with the castle. The setting is part of the experience: guests can sit beside a fireplace or use the sun terrace overlooking the Weser. Inside, the approach combines the character of the older building with a modern dining room. Malte and Katrin Müffelmann run the restaurant, and chef Sophia Gilles leads the kitchen. Their stated focus is regional produce and seasonal cooking. Meat, vegetables and other ingredients come from producers in the surrounding area, with direct relationships between the restaurant and its suppliers. The menu changes regularly, giving the kitchen room to move between familiar dishes and newer interpretations as ingredients become available. The house also works as a coffeehouse, so a visit can be built around a coffee break as well as a full meal. A selected wine list accompanies the food. For travelers staying in Bodenwerder, Hehlen offers a nearby destination where the restaurant and the castle surroundings can form a single outing. Private celebrations are another part of the business, including weddings, birthdays, anniversaries and company events. The team helps organize these occasions individually. Its own culinary events include kitchen parties with live cooking, visiting wine producers and music, plus whisky dinners pairing a sequence of courses with different whiskies. Im Pfenn takes its name from the old local word for the boggy, moorish ground the house stands on, a quiet spot outside Irrhausen in the German-Luxembourg nature park, a short way north of Arzfeld. Christine and Michel Munkler built the house with its barn and stable in 1938; the stable became a tavern in 1961, the barn a guest house, and in 1966 the 'Gasthaus Munkler' opened to the public. The second generation added the large dining room in 1978, and since 2001 Christiane and Oswald Urfels have run it, with son Markus Gutweiler as co-manager since 2021, which makes it a family business in its fourth generation with around forty staff. The main restaurant seats up to 80, a room under the roof takes 25, and a large sun terrace with about 40 seats looks out over the countryside. The kitchen's own phrase is Eifel tradition meeting modern regional cooking, built on fresh products from nearby. Two things are named as specialities: the filled cream puffs served in the afternoon, and from November onwards game dishes from the family's own hunting, which they process themselves. Weekday lunch is deliberately kept small. Birthdays, weddings, closed parties and company events are catered with menus, buffets or themed evenings. Outside there is a play and sports field for children, and the paths into the surrounding forests, meadows and streams start at the door, which is why the house welcomes families, groups, hikers, cyclists and motorcyclists alike and carries the 'Wanderbares Deutschland' hiking certificate.
